We meet in our beautiful small medieval church, St Sampson's, in the rural community of South Hill.  Generations of local people have built, cared for and worshipped in this building for almost seven hundred years.  It is simple and largely unadorned but has a deep sense of stillness and peace. You don’t have to look hard to find its hidden treasures, its peace, and its enduring witness over the centuries to the presence and power of God.

Our Vision

That the church will be an accessible Christian presence in the community, drawing people in by its beauty, enfolding people with the warmth of its welcome and enabling people to experience the grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit

We are an Eco church and are working on our Living Churchyard project, which includes  South Hill bat Project Articles_South_Hill

We are 'middle of the road' in our worship style and although most services follow a formal Church of England pattern, we have an inclusive and informal approach.

Don't worry if you haven’t been to a service before or not for a long time - the service leader usually tells people when to stand up or sit down and our services are easy to follow in the book or printed leaflet.  If you want to sit quietly throughout the service that is fine too.

Children are welcome and we have a box of toys and books . We love to have children in our church and we know they don't usually sit still or quietly for very long so please do not worry.  If you would prefer to come to something less formal, you may prefer to try our monthly Sunday with a Difference events on fourth Sundays.  These alternate between Forest Cafe Church - a bit more focused on families with children but with something for everyone, and a more standard but less formal service, both at 10.00am. Whatever you decide be assured of a warm and friendly welcome!

We would love to see you at any of our services.  Come and see if our style of worship suits you.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

Where and When

We are one church in five locations which offer a wide variety of styles of service from vibrant family friendly services to something more contemplative.  We have services starting at 8am, 9.15am,  10am, 11am and 11.15am across the Cluster of five churches.  You can find details of the services and what to expect here.  The calendar not only gives you the place and time but also a description of what you can expect from the service.

What you can be sure of is a warm welcome at whichever church you decide to visit.  Refreshments will be on offer either before or after the service.
